The Camden County College team plays the breast cancer awareness game annually but not always against the same team. This year the game will be against Montgomery County College and the opposing team is made aware ahead of time to encourage it to show support by wearing something pink. The Camden County College team will also be wearing pink to support the fight for the cure.
“Half the proceeds that are raised from concessions go to the Breast Cancer Foundation and the other half of the proceeds go to the Athletics Department,” said Kaitlyn Hellyer, one of the two team leaders of the Camden County College team. There are no ticket sales for the game so all the donations come strictly from concessions.
As to how the season was looking, Coach Jillian Mulderig responded, “Good, the one thing that was a concern for us was how small the roster is, but I couldn’t have asked for a better team of 10.”
This is Mulderig’s first season coaching the team, but she insisted her new team, full of freshmen and two sophomores, will give the other teams in their conference a run for their money.
Hellyer, a sophomore, believes this will be a good season for the team. “A lot has changed from last year,” she said. “Change is good, you know?”
The breast cancer awareness game will be played at 3:30 p.m. at the Blackwood campus of Camden County College, 200 College Drive, Blackwood, and is estimated to last about two hours.
