BLACKWOOD – After a chaotic year, America is nearing Election Day. With COVID-19 and racial issues at the forefront of voters’ minds, the often vicious battle between President Donald Trump and Former Vice President Joe Biden will come to a close next Tuesday.
Biden, a Democrat who served eight years as President Barack Obama’s vice president, has plans to stop the COVID-19 pandemic, to rebuild the economy, to get people back to work and to give every American affordable healthcare, according to his campaign website.
Trump, a Republican who is seeking reelection, has plans to find a vaccine to end the coronavirus, to lower taxes, to replace the Affordable Care Act and to protect the nation’s borders, according to his campaign website.
Camden County College students have been paying attention to the battle, voting early or planning to vote on Election Day.
CCC student Lindsay Cinousis expressed strong feelings about the election.
“I feel that Trump is a horrible person and doesn’t focus on what we need to focus on right now,” Cinousis said. “I voted Biden because he goes out of his way to address all people with respect. He uses his platforms to celebrate the LGBTQ community and the BLM movement.”
CCC student Thomas Barnes said he did not feel comfortable revealing whom he voted for because of his job but he did express his views about the election.
“I can say that it is probably one of the most important of our lifetimes and will help set the course for how our country will move forward,” Barnes said. “America is at a crossroads where we will either come out with learning lessons and rebuilding our country into something great or we will be doomed to suffer the consequences of our actions.”
