CAMDEN – Camden County College unveiled its new veterans outpost lounge on Nov. 13 on the Camden campus.

More than 30 students and faculty members attended the opening. Among them were about a half dozen U.S. military veterans.

College President Donald Borden complimented the newly unveiled area.

“Everyone needs help and everyone needs to be understood,” Borden stated. “That is the purpose of the Veterans Service Center. It is to make sure each veteran gets the support they need and the lounge is a plus.”

The unveiling caught the attention of Channel 6 and Telemundo, which covered the event live.

“It was nice but brief,” Shani Johnson, college success coach, said of the unveiling ceremony. “It was a great introduction to the veterans on campus, which hopefully lets them know that they have support here at Camden County College.”

The lounge was designed for veterans who need a quiet place to study, finish assignments or relax before class. It has a couch, two computers each equipped with a printer, a coffee table and a television set that includes Netflix and Hulu.

The college’s adjunct faculty union and the U.S.S. New Jersey, which is permanently moored in Camden, provided the lounge.
