Camden County College women’s basketball team wins first game of season

Camden County College Cougars have won their first game of the season. The women cougars defeated the Ocean County College Vikings in a dominating fashion. The score was 43-24 as the Cougars held the Vikings to a season low 24 points. Camden County put on a defensive clinic as several players indicated the importance of their defense in this win. Laniya Rolax mentioned “A lot of our shots were not falling but our defensive effort helped us a lot today.” This game was a much needed win as the Camden County College Cougars were winless before this game.  They were 0-5 before this game finally getting their first win. “We needed this game bad….” Camden County player Divyon Ballance said after the game. The Cougars sense of urgency was shown in this game.

The games leading scorer were Victoria Murphy who scored 18 points on an efficient 8-17 shooting. She finished with six rebounds  , two assist, two blocks , two steals.  The leading rebounders of the game were Divyon Ballance who had eleven rebounds, and Laniya Rolax who finished with with thirteen rebounds. The team altogether shot 28.6% from the field, but held Ocean County College 17.2%. from the field. The Cougars also forced 29 turnovers to their 13. The Cougars had 15 assists as a team which is a season high. They also had 14 steals as a team which was also a season high. “It was a great team win “Divyon Ballance added at the end of the game.

Ocean County College will continue on the season without a win as they are 0-4. The team leading scorers was Amy Galasso with eight points on four of , five rebounds, and one steal.  The leading rebounder  was Jenna Kulinski with 13 rebounders, and two points to round out her stat line. Ocean County College will be facing Suffolk County College next on December 7th 2018.

Camden County College Cougars are now focused on adding more wins to their record, and turning the season around. Adding a winning culture to this season is the main goal at this point.

The Camden County Cougars will face off with Northampton Community College who is 0-7 on the season on December 4th, 2018.
