BLACKWOOD – March Madness Comedy Night was the first-ever comedy show held at Camden County College.
About 200 people attended the show, which featured performances by eight comedians, on March 27.
Comedian Chris Williams said he has several goals when he performs.
“It’s all about perfecting jokes,” Williams said, “do well enough where people want to do another show and see us again.”
The night began at 6 p.m. when members of the college radio station, 91.5 WDBK, helped set up the Atrium for the show. Flyers were placed on tables and snacks such as pretzels and coffee were set up. Soon after, the comedians arrived and occupied the Forum, where they chatted and watched videos.
The doors opened at 7 p.m. and a table was set up to sell tickets at $5 for students and $10 for the general public. Thirty percent of the proceeds from the ticket sales was donated to the Wounded Warriors Project.
About 8 p.m., the audience members took their seats and then the show and laughs began. After each comedian performed, the show’s host, Christopher Shinn, introduced the next performer. That was followed by music and cheering by the audience.
When the show ended, the comedians thanked the audience for coming out and some members of the crowd stayed to have refreshments in the Atrium.
Shinn, who initiated the Comedy Night, said he hopes to conduct more events.
“I think it is extremely important for students, the college and the community to participate in shows, events and other activities at the college because it builds ties and bridges to all mentioned and it makes one look forward to the activities,” Shinn said. “It also instills a sense of purpose and community involvement not to mention it is a lot of fun and is a great way to meet and create relationships with others.”
