BLACKWOOD – Phi Theta Kappa will induct more than 75 new student members into the national honor society at 6 p.m. April 23. The induction ceremony will be held in Civic Hall on the Blackwood campus of Camden County College.

New members to Phi Theta Kappa will receive a stole as well as a golden key pin with a certificate that will be given to them from the Phi Theta Kappa headquarters. Because Phi Theta Kappa represents honor and integrity, the society is changing the way new officer teams will be inducted. Every new officer team will separately stand in front of the new inductee members while they are being inducted.
“This is a new addition to our induction because it emphasizes the leadership opportunities that Phi Theta Kappa offers to its members,” said Sarah Kamal, co-president of Phi Theta Kappa’s Alpha Nu Mu chapter.
Students who will attend this induction ceremony were sent an email with an invitation attached with the information about the ceremony inside along with other important detailed information for inductees. Students are allowed to bring up to three guests with them to see them be inducted into Phi Theta Kappa.
Several college leaders will attend the ceremony, including Dr. Raymond Yannuzzi, president of Camden County College, Dr. Margaret Hamilton, vice president of academic affairs, and Rana Elmekadem, the 2014-2015 New Jersey state president of Phi Theta Kappa. During the ceremony, a special award will be given to a member as thanks for their commitment during their years at community college.
Phi Theta Kappa also has an announcement. “For the first time in many years our chapter will be attending the Phi Theta Kappa International Convention. This year the convention will be in Orlando, Fla. at the Walt Disney World®Swan and Dolphin Resort. We cannot wait to share our experiences with our members and college when we return,” Kamal said about going to the convention.
To be eligible to join Phi Theta Kappa, a student must be enrolled at a regionally accredited institution that offers an associate’s degree program. The student must also have completed at least 12 hours of coursework to an applied associate’s degree and must maintain a grade point average of at least 3.5. The student must be invited to join the chapter at the college where the student is enrolled.
