BLACKWOOD – The International Club at Camden County College will present the fourth annual International Day on April 24 on the Blackwood campus.

International Day is “when people showcase their culture to the public,” said Kareem Lazarus, the president of the International Club. “CCC does this event each year because there are so many international students in the college and this event helps the students socialize and make new friends.”

The event is held in the Connector Building on the Blackwood campus of Camden County College. Five hundred people usually attend this event each year. International Day started in 2010.

Sara Stockman, a member of the International Club, said she looks forward to “talking about our students and the countries” at the event. She said International Day represents to her a “time of celebrating other people’s cultures and seeing students come together” and a chance to visit tables displaying items from various cultures and watch a fashion show. She added she also will attend International Day to meet people, to learn about other countries and “just to have fun.”

Stockman first attended International Day in 2013 and said she heard about it from a friend, who sang the U.S. national anthem.

LaNeice Davis, another member of the International Club, stated she looks forward to seeing all of the international students and seeing “what their cultures are like.” She stated International Day means to her “a day where everyone celebrates their country without being discouraged and showing what or how this country is supposed to be.” During International Day, she said she goes around to the tables and talks to the people who are at the event. She noted she attends this event because she works in the International Office and loves these students.

Davis first heard about the event and attended it for the first time in 2013.

The fourth annual International Day will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. It will include music, singing, a fashion show, dancing and food. It will also have displays representing the different cultures in the community. The event is free. For more information about the event, call 856-418-9385, visit the International Club Facebook page international club, email d.tenork@hotmail.com, or go to http://www.camdencc.edu.
