BLACKWOOD – International Day will be held on April 18 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Camden County College on Peter Cheeseman Road inside the Connector Building.

Last year members of 42 nationalities represented their countries with festive songs, cuisine, traditional garbs and flags. Kathryn L’Esperance, head of International Day, is sponsoring the cultural event along with the Office of International Students. Camden County students, staff and members of the public are welcome to attend.
Soufiane Ellamte, president of International Day, said those who attend can “expect a day of multicultural fun.” He also stated, “We will pay homage by saluting the U.S. with the national anthem, which will signify the beginning of the International Day.”
CCC and Rutgers University students will entertain the audience with a collaboration of Korean fan dancers, a vivid fashion show, diverse music and traditional foods. Students and guests will be able to taste Asian, Hispanic and Indian dishes. Spanish rice, egg rolls and tacos will be a part of the cuisine, prepared and served by the Camden County College cafeteria staff. A magician will perform while a henna artist will show off her artistic talents. Students will display an array of art, language and traditional clothing. In addition, visitors will learn fun facts about various countries. Students will be available to answer questions about their country.
The Human Relations Council and the CCC Campus Press will be among the attendees. The Islamic and Christian Organization will broadcast International Day. The Office of International Students expects a larger crowd this year, since International Day began in 2010 with 12 countries represented and grew to 42 countries represented by 2012.
Ellamte and L’Esperance agreed the reason for International Day is to raise awareness about diverse cultures and embrace differences. The event allows international students to share and infuse their way of life with other cultures.
“We have 365 days … we can at least give them 2 hours to spread their culture. It’s their day,” said L’Esperance.
